Lake Daniel Park Greensboro: Your Complete Guide

Lake Daniel Greenway flower tree

Nestled in the heart of the Westerwood neighborhood, Lake Daniel Park is one of Greensboro’s most beloved community parks — and one of the most beautifully situated. Spanning over 80 acres of land at 410 Mimosa Drive, this family-friendly park anchors the Lake Daniel Greenway and offers a remarkable variety of amenities for walkers, cyclists, athletes, families, and anyone who just wants a great afternoon outside. Best of all: it’s completely free.

What’s at Lake Daniel Park

Playground

Lake Daniel’s playground is a community favorite and one of the reasons families return again and again. Swing sets, a rock wall, a tunnel, monkey bars, a circular slide, and climbing structures of varying difficulty make it engaging for a wide age range. The sandbox area is stocked with toys that past visitors have generously left behind — a sweet Greensboro tradition that speaks to the community’s spirit. The playground sits right off the trail adjacent to the tennis courts, with picnic tables, water fountains, and restrooms conveniently nearby.

Lake Daniel Greenway — Buffalo Creek Trail

The greenway is the heart of the park experience. A fully paved, accessible trail winds through wooded areas and alongside Buffalo Creek, offering beautiful, shaded scenery that feels far removed from the surrounding city. The trail within the park itself is approximately 1 mile round trip — but the real adventure begins when you venture further. From this park the Lake Daniel Greenway continues to the east and west, connecting walkers, joggers, and bikers to surrounding community parks. The full Lake Daniel Greenway loop extends 3.25 miles and connects to Latham Park for an extended adventure. Perfect for morning runs, family bike rides, and dog walks.

Tennis Courts

Three well-maintained tennis courts surrounded by metal fencing, open to the public at no charge. Bring your own rackets and balls — equipment is not provided on-site. Visitors play tennis and pickleball at Lake Daniel, making these some of the most actively used courts in any Greensboro community park.

Sand Volleyball Court

One of the most distinctive features of Lake Daniel Park — a sand volleyball court that adds a beach-day vibe right in the middle of the city. Available first-come, first-served and well-maintained year-round.

Basketball Court

A full-size basketball court on the opposite side of the park from the playground, complete with rims and nets. Well-maintained and regularly used for pick-up games. Located right off the trail, across the street from the playground and tennis courts.

Picnic Areas

Shaded picnic tables are spread throughout the park — ideal for post-playground lunches, casual family cookouts, or simply sitting and reading while the kids play. The open green spaces throughout the park work well for frisbee, soccer practice, and group fitness.

Lake Daniel Reservoir Park

Directly across the street from Lake Daniel Park sits the smaller Lake Daniel Reservoir Park — a quiet complement to the main park featuring a walking path, picnic area, and a small pond. Worth a quick visit to extend your outing.
