About the Wyndham Championship

Contested annually on the Donald Ross-designed course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the Wyndham Championship was founded in 1938 and is one of the oldest events on the PGA TOUR excluding the Majors. The 2026 tournament marks the 87th edition of North Carolina’s oldest professional golf event.

What makes the Wyndham Championship uniquely compelling is its position on the calendar: as the final full-field event of the PGA Tour’s regular season, it is the last opportunity for players outside the FedExCup top 70 to punch their Playoffs ticket before the cutoff. That means every round carries enormous stakes — players fighting for their season, contenders building momentum heading into the FedExCup Playoffs, and no shortage of drama across all four days.

The tournament enjoys a rich history, including former winners like Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, and Seve Ballesteros. 19 former winners are members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Sedgefield Country Club — The Course

Sedgefield Country Club is a classic Donald Ross design originally constructed in 1926. The course underwent a significant renovation completed by Kris Spence in 2007.

Sedgefield Country Club measures 7,131 yards and plays to a par 70 for tournament competition. The course features 12 par-4 holes, 4 par-3 holes, and 2 par-5 holes. The layout spans 130 total acres with 25 acres of fairway and 75 acres of rough. The course includes 52 sand bunkers strategically placed throughout the design, with water hazards coming into play on six holes.

The Donald Ross design rewards precision and shot-making over raw power — tree-lined fairways, small firm greens, and strategic bunkering punish inaccuracy. It’s a thinking player’s course, which makes it endlessly interesting to watch in person as the best players in the world navigate Ross’s century-old layout.

The Field & What’s at Stake

Cameron Young arrives as defending champion after his historic 2025 victory at -22 — which set a new Sedgefield course record and made him the PGA Tour’s 1,000th winner. As the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season, the Wyndham Championship is one last opportunity for players to improve their FedExCup standing before the Playoffs begin. With playoff spots still up for grabs, every round matters — players safely inside the standings will try to build momentum while those on the bubble need a solid finish to extend their season.

This dynamic makes the Wyndham Championship one of the most dramatic weeks on the PGA Tour calendar — players who might otherwise coast through a late-season event are grinding hard, and underdogs frequently step up when the pressure is highest.

Attending the Tournament — Tips & Logistics

Getting There & Parking

Sedgefield Country Club is located at 3201 Forsyth Dr, Greensboro, NC 27407 — about 10 minutes from downtown Greensboro. Parking options include on-site and shuttle parking from remote lots. Check wyndhamchampionship.com for the current parking map and shuttle schedule before you attend.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes — you’ll cover significant ground following groups across the course
  • Sunscreen and a hat — August in Greensboro is hot and humid
  • A small, clear bag for essentials (most PGA Tour events have a bag policy)
  • Portable phone charger — your phone will be your main tool for the app, leaderboard, and photos
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing — the course has limited shade on several holes
  • Cash or card — concessions on course accept both

Best Spots on the Course

  • The 18th green — the natural amphitheater setting makes Sunday’s final holes extraordinary. Plant yourself there late in the final round.
  • The par-3 holes — compact, spectator-friendly, and the tension on a tournament day is palpable
  • Behind the 1st tee — arrive early Thursday or Friday to watch the full field tee off
  • Hospitality village areas — great vantage points with food, drink, and leaderboard access

Folds of Honor Friday

The Wyndham Championship partners with Folds of Honor each year for a special Friday event honoring military families. One of the most meaningful days of the tournament week.

Course Etiquette for First-Timers

  • Silence when a player is hitting — watch for the QUIET signs held by marshals
  • Don’t move when a player is addressing the ball
  • Stay on the designated spectator paths — stepping on the fairway or rough is not permitted
  • Phones on silent and follow the tournament’s photo policy (no flash, no video during swings at some events — check the current policy)
  • Cheer, applaud, and enjoy — it’s a real sporting event and the atmosphere is electric, especially on weekends
